⚽ CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 Qualifying
Where European football failed to provide a lot of exciting action, our South American brothers produced two major upsets.
Argentina 0-2 Uruguay
Argentina lost for the first time since winning the World Cup. Uruguay takes home the W in a game defined by Argentina’s inability to convert occasions. Messi hit the crossbar on a free kick but Argentina was too imprecise to take advantage of its possession. Uruguay shot on goal twice and scored twice. Efficiency wins.
Colombia 2-1 Brazil
Brazil is a Ferrari at the front, and a donkey in the back. Their technical ability on offense cannot be understated, but the defense is non-existent. Brazil started the game with a quick 1-0, but despite dominating the ball, Colombia was the more dangerous team. This is a well-earned victory with two goals from Diaz, who is having an emotional week after his father was rescued from kidnappers.
Bolivia 2-0 Peru
Bolivia came out on top and pulled itself out of last place. Peru once again couldn’t score and is yet to score in these WC qualifiers.
Venezuela 0-0 Ecuador
Both teams completely neutralized each other and finished with a scoreless draw. They shot a combined three times on goal, so there isn’t much to talk about.
Chile 0-0 Paraguay
Fans in the stands looked quite bored as Chile couldn’t convert dominant possession (72%) into dangerous opportunities. Paraguay had its chances to steal the game but wasn’t able to either.
World Cup 2026 Qualifying Table
🏈 TNF: Ravens 34-20 Bengals
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens bounced back from a disappointing loss to the Browns with an emphatic victory over the Bengals. Jackson threw for 264 yards and 2 TDs, and Odell Beckham had his best game yet with the Ravens with 116 yards receiving.
Joe Burrow had to exit the game with a wrist injury, and it is unclear how serious the injury is. He looked good and completed 11 of 17 with a touchdown before heading out. The Bengals season is all but over if Burrow is to miss any game.
The Ravens lost #1 receiving option TE Mark Andrews to an ankle injury, and he will be possibly out for the season. This is a serious blow to the Ravens’ chances of winning the Superbowl, but the receiving corps has the potential to make up for the loss of Andrews. Time will tell.
The Ravens stay at the top of the AFC North and are 8-3, while the Bengals fall to 5-5.
⚽ Euro 2024 Qualifying
This wasn’t expected to be a particularly interesting evening of European football…and it wasn’t. Let’s focus on the results and consequences.
Group A
Cyprus 1-3 Spain
Georgia 2-2 Scotland
Georgia held Scotland to a draw and will get another chance to qualify in the play-offs. Scotland and Spain were already qualified before today.
Group F
Azerbaijan 3-0 Sweden
Estonia 0-2 Austria
Azerbaijan played for pride and annihilated a weak Swedish team. Belgium and Austria were already qualified.
Group G
Bulgaria 2-2 Hungary
Montenegro 2-0 Lithuania
Hungary is now officially qualified for the Euro 2024. Montenegro is still chasing a spot, and will need to defeat Hungary next and hope Serbia loses at home to Bulgaria to qualify.
Group J
Liechtenstein 0-2 Portugal
Luxembourg 4-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Slovakia 4-2 Iceland
Slovakia secured a place in the Euro 2024 with a win over Iceland. Luxembourg and Bosnia will get a chance to qualify through the play-offs.
🏀 NBA
Miami Heat 122-115 Brooklyn Nets
It’s Jimmy Butler time in Miami. After starting the season 1-4, the Heat are now on a 7-game winning streak. Butler showed up and gave the Heat his best game of the season so far, going 12/19 from the field and playing attacking basketball. Duncan Robinson - the man who always shows up when called upon - contributed 26 points. Adebayo added 20.
The Nets, led by Mikal Bridges and Lonny Walker (23 points each) gave the Heat a good run in the first half but couldn’t keep up in the second. Cam Thomas is expected to be out for two weeks with an injury, and the Nets just aren’t as competitive without their main man.
Golden State Warriors 109-128 Oklahoma City Thunder
No Curry, no chance for the Warriors.
Klay Thompson had one of the worst nights of his career, shooting 1/10 and finishing with 5 points in 27 minutes. Kuminga and Paul stepped up for the Warriors with 21 and 15 points respectively, but the Warriors don’t have a lot to offer besides Curry this year.
The Thunder took everything they wanted, and Isaiah Joe went 7-7 from the three for a career-best 23 points. SGA didn’t have a great night and shot 6/21 for 24 points, but he didn’t need one against the shorthanded Warriors.
🏁 F1 Las Vegas Qualifying
F1 promised the greatest show on earth, but this race weekend is turning into a nightmare. After the opening ceremony on Wednesday, things could not have gone worse for Formula 1 in Vegas on Thursday.
Nine minutes into FP1, the first practice session, a water valve cover was ripped off the asphalt by a passing Formula 1 car, and tore into Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari. This is a safety incident of the highest magnitude - a driver hitting a piece of metal at 330 kph would be fatal.
Imagine hitting this at 330 kph.
Ferrari has already said they’ll need a completely new car rebuild as the damage wrecked the engine and other critical components. They’ll also incur a penalty for changing components, despite it not being their fault. Esteban Ocon suffered floor damage as well and will need a new chassis.
The practice session was subsequently canceled as the track needed repairs, and FP2 has been delayed. Repairs are currently ongoing, and there are reports that the track has 30 water valves that need addressing and fixing before the cars can run again.
As I am writing this, FP2 hasn’t started yet. It is now expected to happen between 2:30 am and 4 am local time. Ridiculous. Keep in mind that tickets for this event cost thousands of dollars and that F1 has been working on making this happen for over a year.
Qualifying is supposed to take place on Friday night at midnight, but the entire event is now a big question mark, and it is hard to discuss potential action on track when there hasn’t been any.
This is a track with long straights, and from what we’ve seen so far, teams are going with a low downforce configuration to maximize straight-line speed. This is good news for Red Bull and Williams, two teams who are known for their raw speed. Mercedes on the other hand could struggle as the W14 creates a lot of drag.
What happens next is anybody’s guess. Will the track be ready on time for FP2? Will there be any more unforeseen issues? Will Carlos Sainz be able to rejoin the race weekend?
This is a bad look for Formula 1 in what they expected to be their most glamorous weekend of the year.
⚽ Euro 2024 Qualifying
Group C
Italy - North Macedonia
England - Malta
Italy cannot afford any more slip-ups and has to win at home against North Macedonia to set up a showdown for qualification against Ukraine on the next match day. England is qualified and can rotate the squad against Malta.
Group E
Moldova - Albania
Poland - Czech Republic
This is the most interesting group left, and it will go down to the wire. Albania is leading the group and can qualify for the Euro with a win in Moldova, who need a win themselves to be in the running for qualification. The same goes for Poland and the Czech Republic who will battle it out to keep
Group H
Kazakhstan - San Marino
Finland - Nothern Ireland
Danmark - Slovenia
The winner of Danmark - Slovenia will secure a spot in the Euro. Kazakhstan, in third place, is 4 points behind with 2 games to go and needs to win twice to have any hope of qualifying. They will be rooting for a Slovenian loss to set up a match for direct qualification in the final round of games.
🏀 NBA
Los Angeles Clippers - Houston Rockets
The Clippers are still looking for their first win in the James Harden era. The Rockets are 6-3 and are having their best start to a season in years. Every indicator, from AI predictors to betting companies, seems to be pointing toward the first Clippers victory. But they’ve been wrong before.
The Rockets are one of the early-season surprises, led by Alperen Sengun with 19.4 ppg, Jalen Green with 19 ppg, and Fred VanVleet with 17.2 ppg. Can the Rockets keep this up and contend for a playoff spot? The Clippers will be a good test.
Atlanta Hawks - Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers are coming off a tired loss to the Celtics and had two days to recover from a grueling schedule. They’ve lost two in a row now after starting the season 8-1. Embiid and Maxey will be looking to get back on track against a Hawks team that has been very hit-and-miss this season.
Whenever Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are hitting their shots, they’re a menace. But neither has been consistent enough to make the Hawks a team that is scary to face.
Other Games
Charlotte Hornets - Milwaukee Bucks
Washington Wizards - New York Knicks
Cleveland Cavaliers - Detroit Pistons
Toronto Raptors - Boston Celtics
San Antonio Spurs - Sacramento Kings
Chicago Bulls - Orlando Magic
New Orleans Pelicans - Denver Nuggets
Utah Jazz - Phoenix Suns
Portland Trail Blazers - Los Angeles Lakers

🗣️ Quote Of The Day
"We damaged completely the monocoque, the engine, the battery. I think it’s just unacceptable."
Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur was FUMING following the incident that wrecked Carlos Sainz’s car. And they’ll have to take a penalty to fix it.
F1 is a clown show sometimes.

For only the FIFTH TIME in 66 years, Argentina has lost a home World Cup qualifier.
